I Don’t Like Mondays…

Just like the Boomtown Rats, I want to shoot the whole day down! Today was no exception. I wonder if from now on I were to tell myself I simply LOVE Mondays, and cannot wait for them to come around, would my relationship with Mondays change? Hmm… Mondays and me are most incompatible. On the other hand, I love Thursdays. Everything good happens to me on a Thursday.

The dentist first thing this morning set the tone for the rest of the day. Pain pain go to Spain I sang in the car coming home, but instead of going to Spain, the pain stayed in my jaw. My home renovations from hell are draining me.

Then tonight, I watched 48 Hours. It was about a young genius millionaire engineer who shot an innocent man, just because he wanted to see what killing a person felt like. The engineer was married to a dentist and drove around in a very expensive BMW sports car. His dentist wife knew he had done this but covered up for him.

Is it me, or do you think the world has gone insane??

I need sugar badly! Help!

God willing, tomorrow will be a better day…

Hugs,
Patricia

Join Me For Some Bright Line Eating!

Hi Girls,

Spring is in the air, Leo has just won the Oscar for Best Actor (Yeah!!), the daffodils are smiling in the fields around me, and life if good! Well, there is still room for improvement… I dunno about you ladies, but I could do with losing a few pounds. Each Monday, I will be doing an update. Starting today, Monday the 29th, I shall be kissing sugar goodbye for 30 days, as well as flour. I am following the Bright Line Eating Program devised by Susan Peirce Thompson. For this BHAG (big hairy audacious goal), the four pillars are:

  • No Flour
  • No Sugar
  • Three Meals
  • Weigh everything

I’m trying it for a month and could do with some company. We could comment below on how our journey is going…

Hope to hear from you!

Hugs,
Patricia

Don’t Let the Wormy Bugaroos Get to ou!

YOU, are responsible for the energy you create around yourself. I mention that on my website www.astroworld.ca simply because I believe it to be hugely true. Yes, we can control our bad moods – absolutely, and without doubt we can. I know, because I awoke this morning in lousy form. We’re in the middle of a pain-in-the-u-no-what home renovation. Our beloved home will be 100 years old in July d.v. and with that age comes responsibilities! In addition, other little ‘wormy bugaroos’, as I call them, were threatening to bring my mood below happy level.

Then I remembered a wonderful quote of Wayne Dyer’s which goes like this:- ‘Be miserable or motivate yourself’.Whatever has to be done, it’s always your choice’. How great is that? Simple, and to the point.

Armed with knowledge, I said my morning prayers, hopped out of bed, sang my heart out in the shower, washed my hair, and got ready to greet the day! There is enough gloom in the world, why add to it?

Love you,

Hugs,

What Makes You Go Ga-Ga?

How-to-Shop-on-a-Budget

For me, it’s babies, chihuahuas, and fashion. Whenever I see these wonders of creation, my heart sings and I want to reach out and hug the world! That can be a problem, especially when I’m in company. I’m currently in Vancouver, where cute puppies are a fashion accessory, and little babies look so out-of-place, amidst the hustle and bustle of busy shoppers, and the fashion bargains are causing my happy hormones to hoppity hop hop. So much stimulation. Cafe Faubourg in Vancouver, is another one on my ga-ga list.

When I see a baby, or a chihuahua, I whistle at the little wow wow, until his tail wags, and make funny faces at the baby, until I get a smile back — it works. See how easy it is to make a baby smile, and a puppy wag his tail? Now, you can go do the same for yourself. Find that something that makes you go ga-ga and just do it! Tell the proud parent that their baby is the most beautiful baby you have ever in your life seen. Now, you have made parent and baby happy — and yourself into the bargain, for being so nice. Happiness is truly catching!

Getting a great bargain at the sales also makes me go GG. This past week, I lucked out at J.Crew, Banana Republic, and Ralph Lauren. My daughters were truly in awe at my bargains. At J.Crew, I snagged a fabulous pair of silk pants reduced from $193 to $33! I had fallen in love with them at Christmas, but said I would defer gratification until the sales. It worked! Chez Banana Republic I got a fabulous necklace reduced from $68 down to under $8, and a cute black top reduced from $95 down to $39.

Looking good really doesn’t have to cost that much, as long as you shop with discretion! As a Boomer Babe, I go for quality, and for items that I can mix and match with existing pieces in my wardrobe. That’s why I love Ralph Lauren. All his clothes match each other perfectly. I have been buying his clothes for more than 20 years now, and have never thrown out a single piece yet. Crazy, but his fabrics and fashion seem to go on forever!! I save time by only shopping in the shops where I know I will get both quality and style at a good price too!

Have fun doing what makes your heart sing!!

Hugs,

You’re Only As Old As You Feel!

I love this woman. Her name is Iris Apfel and she is a doll — all 93 years of her! She truly inspires me. Just google her name, and enjoy all her fabulous outfits. You can be old at 30 or young at 90 — the latter appeals to me.

When I eventually hit the pearly gates, I want to be able to tell St. Peter “Life was great!” And that I enjoyed each tender moment — even the sad ones, as I knew they carried a lesson for me, and that life would have been boring if the sun shone every day!

Bright colours and sunny people cheer the soul. I know for a fact because every time I wear my luminous colours, the sun shines brighter, and the smiles all around make every day a Hawaiian day. Talking of Hawaii reminds me of the fabulous birthday party I went to in January. It was for a sassy gal named Doris, who was turning 90, and her son was turning 50. She invited us to dress up as 20s flapper girls, or 60s disco chicks.

I dressed up as a flower power girl from the 60s, and danced the night away in absolute bliss, wearing hot pink and sunny orange, and listening to Tom Jones purring ‘Pussycat Pussycat, I love you.’ Doris got up and danced with her son when they played ‘The Tennessee Waltz’.  Tears of joy trickled down my cheeks as I gazed at the love between Mum and Son!!  Shucks, it was a magic moment!!

Later, a Fairy Godmother came in to grant Doris three wishes, and from her big Mary Poppins bag, she removed a yellow rubber chicken — “Because you’re only a Spring chicken, Doris” she said with a laugh and then continued, “Did you get a Lei today Doris?” “Whattt??” Doris asked, with a grin on her mischievous face. Fairy Godmother then put a Hawaiian Lei around Doris’s neck. Lastly, she sprinkled fairy dust all over a smiling Doris.

That’s the way to do a 90th birthday, girls! Would you not agree?

Aloha, and Hugs from Vivacious Vancouver,
Patricia xxx
