You’re Only As Old As You Feel!
I love this woman. Her name is Iris Apfel and she is a doll — all 93 years of her! She truly inspires me. Just google her name, and enjoy all her fabulous outfits. You can be old at 30 or young at 90 — the latter appeals to me.
When I eventually hit the pearly gates, I want to be able to tell St. Peter “Life was great!” And that I enjoyed each tender moment — even the sad ones, as I knew they carried a lesson for me, and that life would have been boring if the sun shone every day!
Bright colours and sunny people cheer the soul. I know for a fact because every time I wear my luminous colours, the sun shines brighter, and the smiles all around make every day a Hawaiian day. Talking of Hawaii reminds me of the fabulous birthday party I went to in January. It was for a sassy gal named Doris, who was turning 90, and her son was turning 50. She invited us to dress up as 20s flapper girls, or 60s disco chicks.
I dressed up as a flower power girl from the 60s, and danced the night away in absolute bliss, wearing hot pink and sunny orange, and listening to Tom Jones purring ‘Pussycat Pussycat, I love you.’ Doris got up and danced with her son when they played ‘The Tennessee Waltz’. Tears of joy trickled down my cheeks as I gazed at the love between Mum and Son!! Shucks, it was a magic moment!!
Later, a Fairy Godmother came in to grant Doris three wishes, and from her big Mary Poppins bag, she removed a yellow rubber chicken — “Because you’re only a Spring chicken, Doris” she said with a laugh and then continued, “Did you get a Lei today Doris?” “Whattt??” Doris asked, with a grin on her mischievous face. Fairy Godmother then put a Hawaiian Lei around Doris’s neck. Lastly, she sprinkled fairy dust all over a smiling Doris.
That’s the way to do a 90th birthday, girls! Would you not agree?
Aloha, and Hugs from Vivacious Vancouver,
Patricia xxx
